Among those alumni selected, filmmaker (Tyler Rabinowitz 11’) tap dancer (Joseph Webb 96’) and visual artist (Denzel Boyd 14’) were paired to carry out this endeavor.
Once assigned, the three artists exchanged images, poems, videos, and other forms of media that inspired them as part of the planning process. Through this exhange of communication, they came across a viral video showcasing the Northwest Tap Connection credited as “The Groovement” a race and social justice oriented dance collective that boastfully danced in protest of police brutality to the politcally charged song “Hell You Talmbout” by Janelle Monae and Wondaland Records. The video performance and discussion of current events sparked the conceptual basis of their film that highlights the names of those who have fell victim to police brutality. This film aims to promote radical transformation as well as directing the focal point on extrajudicial killings of Black people by police and vigilantes that occur everyday.
